About the Artist

The purpose of my paintings is to make something beautiful for me but at the same time they are a means of expression representing my deepest feelings and my life experiences. In addition, my paintings are all about how I see color and color relationships; how I see shapes; and how I see line and linear movements. They are also about complexity, sadness, love and hope. My aim is to let the viewer make a connection with the richness of nature and inner emotions. Read more

fotoMy style of painting with water colors is various; different topics and styles and techniques, in that I want to express my experiences. Nature is the perfect subject for my desire to play with hues and shapes. They possess vivid and expansive colour schemes, wild, undulating contours, and they don’t need to be spelled correctly. I enjoy pushing the medium of watercolours through its range of delicate washes to rich, deeply layered glazes, urging the paper to its saturation point. With these paintings I have stepped beyond words and released unexpected inner images. They capture a deep and previously hidden layer of myself, one that gives form to my love of the natural world.

When I work on a painting, I put away all thoughts that are not helpful and channel my energies towards relaxing and becoming one with my painting. Since I work intuitively, this is absolutely important. I begin to see subjects, shapes, color combinations in my head and think about how to work them out with my palette of colors. Never, ever do I think about what others expect or want or what will sell, but rather I look as a process of discovery. I love being inside my brain and pushing myself to think in ever more complex ways because I know the ideas are there for the taking found in daily life. It’s all about being focused and disciplined and making use of one’s abilities. And about being alone, in solitude, so one can think and feel deeply without interruption. I love the work, the experience of making each painting. It’s my life, my life’s work! I feel I can live through using the talents or gifts I was given. Without the help of my loved ones; my always supportive son and inspiring grandson I would never could have reached this point of self expression.
